Cataract Surgery and Treatments
Cataract information in Toledo, OH
What are Cataracts?
Cataracts are a common condition that affects the eyes, particularly as we age.
They occur when the lens in the eye becomes cloudy, causing vision to become blurred and distorted. Symptoms of cataracts can include difficulty seeing in low light, problems with color perception, and glare from lights.
Advanced technology plays a key role in cataract surgery and can lead to better outcomes for patients.
What Causes Cataracts?
Cataracts are caused by a buildup of proteins in the lens of the eye, which causes clouding of the lens and a decrease in vision. As we age, the proteins in the lens may begin to clump together, leading to the formation of a cataract.
Other factors that can increase the risk of cataracts include long-term exposure to sunlight or UV radiation, smoking, certain medical conditions such as diabetes, and certain medications such as corticosteroids. In some cases, cataracts may be present at birth or develop as a result of an injury to the eye.
